What is sugaring?

Discover the benefits and why it's often the right solution for clients.

The Sweet Solution

Sugaring hair removal is taking the beauty world by storm, offering clients a sweet alternative to traditional waxing methods.

The name for this method comes from the paste itself, which consists of sugar, lemon (or citric acid), and water.

The paste is applied to the skin, against the hair growth. It is then removed, with the hair growth, picking up hair, dead skin cells, and any loose pore-clogging debris.

Unlike traditional waxing, sugaring pastes do not stick to live skin cells, this often results in a less painful hair removal experience. Why? Live skin cells contain nerve endings. Exposed nerve endings cause pain because they are highly sensitive and designed to detect various sensations in our body. By only removing dead skin cells, sugaring exposes the live skin without irritating nerve endings. The result is gently exfoliated, radiant skin.

Sugar paste melts at a significantly lower temperature when compared to wax. It is best used at a temperature of 37 to 39°C (97 to 102°F).  However, it may be used at a cooler temperature in warmer climates. Compare that to waxing: Hard wax typically melts between 68 to 72°C (154 to 162°F). Soft wax typically melts between 45 to 65°C (113 to 149°F).

With sugaring, you maintain a lower temperature, so whether you are the client, practitioner or business owner, rest assured that safety is best maintained.
